Alex Revell feels Stevenage were better team in draw with Leyton Orient

Stevenage manager Alex Revell felt his team were the better side as they ground out a 0-0 tie with Leyton Orient.

The game at the Lamex Stadium was a drab affair, with very few chances created by either team.

Blustery conditions made the clash a tough one for spectators and players alike, with the ball holding up in the wind on many occasions.

Despite the stalemate, Revell believed Stevenage were the only team likely to win the fixture.

He said: “The conditions didn’t help, especially in the first half. I thought we were better in the second half, we started the game quite brightly.

“They made it difficult, it was stop-start with throw-ins – it’s what we’ve come to expect when teams come here.

“There was only one team pushing, or trying to push, but it was that last pass or ball running out of play.

“It’s another clean sheet and I don’t think they really threatened us at all.

“The conditions were tough, it was scrappy and you need somebody to take the game by the scruff of the neck when it’s like that.”

It took 27 minutes for the first chance of any note, and indeed the only opportunity in the opening period, which fell to the hosts.

A fierce shot from the edge of the area by Louis Thompson was not held by Josh Keeley but Nathan Thompson was unable to keep his follow-up on target.

Substitute Elliott List saw his diving header go over the bar on 81 minutes, while a late Tom James free kick was well-held by Murphy Cooper.

Despite the visitors struggling to create goalscoring opportunities, manager Richie Wellens felt his side had earned a good point.

Wellens said: “Whenever you come here at the best of times you have to fight. We did all the basics right and today even more so in the conditions.

“Both sets of players. The application and attitude was very good – it was a game that lacked quality.

“You want to be up for the battle, to come here and not concede is good.

“They had one shot on target, we need to have more, but it’s a good point away from home.

“To see a spectacle that was pretty poor, the fans stuck by us regardless.”
