Andy Woodman believes no team could live with Bromley’s display at Morecambe
Bromley boss Andy Woodman believes no team can live with his side if they perform as they did in their 2-0 win at bottom club Morecambe.
Goals from Omar Sowunmi and Michael Cheek gave Woodman’s side a victory that extended their unbeaten run in League Two to nine matches.
And despite their opponents dropping to the bottom of the table and remaining without a home league win this season, Woodman felt it was a statement performance from his 13th-placed team.
“We have a really solid group of lads who are honest and give everything and I am super proud of them today,” Woodman said.
“I thought it was an excellent performance. We played the conditions really well. We were solid at the back and I can’t remember our goalkeeper making a save.
“Morecambe had a little spell on top in the second half but we just sat in tight and went again and if we play like that no team will live with us.
“Clean sheets win you leagues and get you promoted and we have to make sure we keep grinding out results in these winter months.
“I always think people lose sight of the Christmas period with all the festivities but the truth is there are 18 points up for grabs and I want to make sure we get as many as we can.”
Bromley took the lead in the 19th minute when Morecambe goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne failed to claim a cross and Kamarl Grant teed up Sowunmi to head into the empty goal from eight yards out.
After a poor first half Morecambe looked to get back into the game after the break but failed to test Grant Smith.
And it was Bromley who found the target again when Cheek scored from the spot six minutes from time after Danny Imray had been brought down by Tom White.
Morecambe boss Derek Adams said errors at vital times in the game proved decisive.
“It was the story of our season really, goalkeeping mistakes,” he said.
“We had another today from a different goalkeeper who didn’t collect a cross and made a mistake.
“We then made a mistake to give them a penalty and we gave them two goals on the day at one end and didn’t score again at the other.
“We were the better team at the start but gave them a goal out of nothing and we have done that so many times this season.
“On the opposite side we haven’t scored enough goals and today we didn’t have any chances on target and that is a huge problem in itself.”
