Barrow manager Stephen Clemence felt his side deserved to win the game after picking up a hard-earned point with 1-1 draw against Tranmere at Prenton Park.
The Bluebirds took the lead in the 12th minute when Robbie Gotts’ long-range effort found the net courtesy of a huge deflection from Jordan Turnbull with Rovers’ goalkeeper Luke McGee left helpless.
The home side were handed a great chance to level 10 minutes before the break when Paul Farman bundled over Harvey Saunders following a poor back-pass and Omari Patrick calmly slotted home the resulting spot-kick.
In a thrilling second half, both teams had good chances to win the game as they looked to put some daylight between themselves and the Sky Bet League Two relegation places.
Patrick was twice denied well by Farman and Turnbull headed narrowly over as Tranmere went in search of a second goal.
At the other end, Elliot Newby and Andy Dallas were both thwarted by McGee and a post after Theo Vassell’s close-range header struck the crossbar.
Kristian Dennis had a glorious chance for the home side at the death, only to blast straight at Farman with the goal at his mercy as the points were shared.
“Considering we had a game a few days ago and Tranmere didn’t I thought we were immense and we were the stronger team at the end,” Clemence said.
“What I saw there was a group of people in that dressing room who were really pulling together and wanting to do their best for this football club.
“We had to change our whole system today and had two days to work on it, and I thought the boys carried out our game plan superbly and we deserved to win the game.
“We took the lead with a deflected shot and were perhaps a bit lucky, but the second half we were the team in the ascendancy. We’ve hit the post and the bar and their keeper’s made a good double save.
“It’s frustrating and I feel like we’ve come away without the points we deserve, but I’m right behind those boys in the dressing room if they keep showing that commitment.”
Tranmere boss Nigel Adkins admitted either team could have snatched victory.
“Both sides could have won it at the end to be honest,” Adkins said.
“I thought we started the game well and a deflected goal against the run of play obviously puts them 1-0 up, but we’ve responded well to that.
“We had a lot of the ball and created some good situations and at half-time we believed we could go on and win the game.
“We could have lost the game, we could have won the game, but I’ll reflect on things afterwards as perhaps we could have done a few things differently.
“We just needed to get on the ball and have a little more calmness, but unfortunately we didn’t get the win we were after.
“The players are running on fumes at the end, so that shows the players are competing. We wanted to have that little bit more quality at the end, but that’s what we’ll keep working on.”
