Ged Garner set Barrow on their way to an emphatic 4-0 League Two victory over Port Vale at the SO Legal Stadium.

The Bluebirds defeated the Valiants in the Carabao Cup just under two weeks ago and four second-half goals in an impressive display gave them their second league win of the season.

Port Vale had the best chance of a tight first half when captain Ben Garrity’s header from Ronan Curtis’ corner was superbly tipped over by Barrow goalkeeper Paul Farman in the 21st minute.

Having previously created little, Barrow went ahead after 54 minutes when Garner turned inside the area before stroking the ball beyond Connor Ripley into the bottom corner.

The Bluebirds then gave themselves breathing space in the 79th minute when Elliot Newby played the ball through for fellow substitute Emile Acquah, who blasted into the top corner.

Kian Spence added a third three minutes later by knocking in Neo Eccleston’s cross before Newby’s cut-back was dispatched by Dom Telford in stoppage time.
