Ben Fox rescues late point for Northampton at Rochdale

Ben Fox rescued a point for promotion-chasing Northampton with an 88th-minute leveller in a 1-1 draw at bottom-of-the-table Rochdale.

Dale striker Ian Henderson was inches away from turning Danny Lloyd’s cross/shot in at the far post in the first half, while Sam Hoskins stung the palms of Richard O’Donnell in the home goal.

Rochdale started the second half with real purpose. Lloyd worked Tom King four minutes in with a free-kick and the Northampton goalkeeper was called on again soon after to push Scott Quigley’s snapshot around the post.

Henderson broke the deadlock on 52 minutes. He took the ball round King and, having been driven wide, checked back and calmly lifted a neat finish over the goalkeeper in off the post.

Quigley had a chance to win it when he got in behind the Cobblers defence but fired wide and Dale paid the price in the 88th minute when Fox rifled an angled drive into the roof of the net.

O’Donnell denied Northampton a late winner when he raced off his line to deny D’Margio Wright-Phillips.
