Bristol Rovers beat Barnsley on penalties to reach FA Cup third round
Bristol Rovers beat Barnsley 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out to go through to the third round of the FA Cup after the game finished 0-0 at the end of extra-time.
The visitors went close after just five minutes when Gatlin O’Donkor’s powerful shot struck a post.
Shaq Forde also threatened for Rovers shortly afterwards with a curling effort which was pushed away by keeper Ben Killip.
Stephen Humphrys had a shot saved comfortably by Rovers keeper Josh Griffiths.
Griffiths was called into action again to turn a superb effort from Kelechi Nwakali wide.
Humphrys went close in the closing stages of the half with a curling effort which beat Griffiths but came back off a post.
The woodwork was struck once again in the opening minute of the second period when Barnsley’s Adam Phillips thumped the bar with a header.
Fabio Jalo forced a save from Griffiths late in normal time.
Sam Cosgrove and Josh Earl were denied by Griffiths in extra-time while Barry Cotter headed over.
After Phillips hit a post, Chris Martin, Ruel Sotiriou, Scott Sinclair and Forde all scored from the spot while Earl’s effort was saved by Griffiths.
