Chelsea’s winning start to WSL ended by Leicester draw

Leicester ended Chelsea’s 100 per cent record under coach Sonia Bompastor after both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Missy Goodwin finished a well-worked team goal with a low finish in the 20th minute, but Chelsea pulled one back in the 77th minute through Wieke Kaptein’s long-range strike from just outside the box.

The Blues had won all nine of their league games so far this season and a late point means they sit six points clear of title rivals Manchester City, who play Everton on Sunday.

The result also ended Leicester’s six-game losing run in the WSL against Chelsea, but they move only one point clear of the relegation zone.

The final round of WSL games before the winter break also saw Marisa Olislagers score a brilliant late equaliser for Brighton to claim a 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

A scrappy encounter saw few clear-cut chances from either side, but Beth England eventually sent Spurs ahead in the 75th minute following a tidy move from Martha Thomas and Jess Naz on the right wing.

However, Olislagers levelled just seven minutes later with a stunning volley to share the spoils.
