Connor Young scored twice as Edinburgh City lifted themselves off the bottom of William Hill League Two with a 2-0 win over Derby rivals Spartans, who finished with 10 men at Meadowbank.

City had the better of few first-half chances, with Young seeing an early effort saved by Blair Carswell and James Stokes also tested the Spartans keeper before the break.

The key moment of the match came in the 54th minute when Spartans defender Kevin Waugh brought down Innes Lawson and was shown a straight red card, with Young converting from the spot.

After City keeper Mark Weir saved from Blair Henderson, Young made sure of the points in stoppage time when he scored a second from Robbie Hamilton’s pass.
