Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb was keen to praise his side for a “well-overdue” clean sheet after their 1-0 win at home to Barrow.

Jamie Grimes headed in an 89th minute winner after a game of very few chances appeared destined to remain goalless.

Barrow are now winless in seven Sky Bet League Two outings after a strong start to the season, whilst Grimes’ goal sealed a first home league win for Chesterfield since September.

Webb said “It was very well earned today, not just for the backline and the goalie, but the whole team.

“It wasn’t pretty at times, I don’t think the conditions helped either team.

“I thought we were quite solid and in control, without being disrespectful to Barrow because they carry threats, like most teams do in this league.

“When we did score I felt we would see the game out, 0-0 at home would have been very disappointing.

“To get that late winner and get back in the play-offs, it’s a really good day. After two poor performances and poor results it was important you win by hook or by crook, and the boys found that way to win today.”

Webb continued: “Harvey Araujo was chosen to play instead of Grimes and Grimesey, being the great lad he is, is the first one to congratulate Harvey on his start. Grimesey comes on and acts like a captain. So I’m so pleased that he’s got the winning goal today especially.”

Barrow manager Stephen Clemence rued conceding another late goal.

He said: “For large parts of it, our shape was very good.

“We restricted Chesterfield to very little in large parts of the game but we’ve let in another late goal, and it’s not good enough. It’s not acceptable, and it’s happening in far too many games recently.

“How that ball comes in the box and we don’t get a challenge on it, that’s not good enough for me, so that will obviously be looked at again and it will be dealt with.

“We’ve got to make sure we are tougher and stand up to balls into our box when it matters at the end of games, but obviously people are playing on that now.

“Chesterfield didn’t really have a shot at goal, a clear-cut chance, some shots from distance but that was it.

“Two corners come in late in the game. Before that, a long ball goes in and we’re too deep. We’ve got to stop dropping back.

“I want our mentality to be on the front foot and for us to be playing up the pitch, we can’t be going back towards our box at the end of games. That’s probably one of the things that’s been costing us.”
