A brace from David McGoldrick ensured Notts County’s unbeaten start to the new season extended from four games to five with a 2-0 victory over Accrington.
After a slow opening at Meadow Lane, McGoldrick’s red-hot form from last weekend at Swindon continued as he gave Notts County the lead in the 18th minute.
Jacob Bedeau found McGoldrick in space 25 yards out, and the Irishman fired into the top corner.
McGoldrick nearly had his fourth in two games and his second of the afternoon after a delightful combination with Conor Grant led to McGoldrick having another effort on goal but he was denied as it looked to be entering the back of the net by Donald Love.
It was the McGoldrick show in the first half, as the forward tried his luck once more from range. However, this effort just fizzed past the far post.
Jack Hinchy had the ball in the back of the net just after the restart, but referee Martin Woods chalked it off due to an incident in the build-up.
The second goal was finally added by McGoldrick, who dispatched emphatically from the edge of the box after 67 minutes to make it four goals in two games for the forward.
