Doncaster boss Grant McCann was delighted his promotion-chasing team got back to winning ways at Fleetwood.
Rovers, who went into the game on the back of three successive draws in League Two, sealed a topsy-turvy encounter 4-2 with five of the goals coming in a manic first half.
Kyle Hurst gave the visitors the lead before Mark Helm equalised against the run of play, and with more than a hint of offside.
Owen Bailey propelled Rovers back into the lead before Fleetwood restored parity again through Ryan Graydon.
But Billy Sharp then scored his third goal in the space of four days on the brink of half-time before an own goal from Rhys Bennett midway through the second half ensured the points went back to South Yorkshire.
“It’s never easy coming here,” McCann said. “I think I’ve only ever won once here in all the times I’ve come.
“We had to make sure we got our gameplan right and we did that. We pressed well, especially the front two.
“I’m pleased we’ve got back to winning ways.
“Our first goal is a really good bit of calmness by Joe Ironside to find Hursty and then it’s a good finish. The second one is a diving header which was great after a good ball.
“The third one Joe has intercepted it and found Billy who does what he does best. And then the fourth one, it’s good to score from a set-play.
“This was our third away game in just over a week but it was the toughest one by far. We’ve just to make sure our recovery is right now for Saturday and Cheltenham.”
McCann was unhappy with the award of Fleetwood’s first equaliser, saying it should have been chalked off.
He added: “He’s two yards offside. I’ve spoken to both the linesman and the referee after the game. This is why we’re frustrated.
“Their lad is standing two yards offside and how the linesman can’t see it, I don’t know. He’s right in front of him.”
Fleetwood chief Charlie Adam has now seen his team win just once in their last eight league games as they missed the chance to trim the gap between themselves and the play-off bunch.
“I thought we dug in tonight but you can see the quality Doncaster have got,” Adam said.
“They score early but we level it up and then you’re thinking can we get another.
“We go behind again but it’s a great response to make it 2-2.
“I was disappointed we conceded just before half-time. If it’s 2-2 at the break you never know how it can pan out but their class showed, especially with someone like Billy Sharp.
“And then the fourth is the killer. But we carried on trying and I can’t be too critical of the boys. We move on quickly now to Saturday.”
