A solo moment of brilliance from Elliott Nevitt earned Gillingham a valuable 1-0 victory at Notts County.
The first opportunity of the game arrived for Gillingham, as a Jayden Clarke shot was palmed away by Alex Bass into the path of Joseph Gbode but his eventual shot was well held by the goalkeeper.
Notts County responded well, and created an opportunity of their own through Nick Tsaroulla. However, the wing-back’s effort was fired wide of the near post.
The wing-back then found himself with a golden opportunity to put his side ahead, as he met the end of a brilliant cross from fellow defender Lewis Macari, but he could only fire over the crossbar.
Then, Tsaroulla must have thought his luck was out as a Jodi Jones effort was palmed into his path for what looked to be a tap-in. But, his shot rebounded off a post and was cleared away by the visitors.
Despite County having the better of the chances, it was Gillingham who took the lead. A through ball was latched on to by Nevitt, who rounded Bass and slotted into an empty net.
