Charlie McCann’s second-half equaliser earned National League promotion-chasers Forest Green a point in a 1-1 home draw against Aldershot.

McCann struck early in the second period after Ryan Jones’ effort had given the Shots an interval lead, with the point enough to keep Forest Green third in the table.

Forest Green created several first-half chances, with Aldershot goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst superbly saving Harry Cardwell’s shot and McCann’s follow-up effort.

Aldershot took the lead shortly before half-time when Jones’ deflected effort left home goalkeeper Jed Ward flat-footed, but McCann levelled it up soon after the break following Tom Knowles’ fine cross.
