Grant McCann admitted he was relieved that Doncaster managed to come away with a point from their clash with Cheltenham.
The Rovers boss was thoroughly frustrated with the level of performance from his side as they twice came from behind to secure a third consecutive home league draw.
George Broadbent’s stunning strike cancelled out an own goal from Owen Bailey only for Cheltenham to edge back in front two minutes later through Ethon Archer.
Luke Molyneux levelled again for Doncaster with McCann – who has targeted the title for his side this season – feeling Rovers were fortunate to share the spoils.
“I feel relieved because we were nowhere near it today,” McCann said. “Credit to Cheltenham – they played the conditions better than us, won more second balls, were more threatening than us.
“We were nowhere near where we can be so I’m relieved, disappointed, angry, frustrated. It’s another two points dropped at home for us.
“When we got the equaliser – and what a strike it was from George – we conceded two minutes later and I’m again talking about how we should be keeping players on the outside of us. It is so frustrating.
“We’re dropping way too many points at home to be where we want to be and push at the top end of the league. It was an opportunity for us to pull Walsall back in a bit but we haven’t done it.”
Cheltenham manager Michael Flynn spoke of his pride in his team after they backed up the midweek draw with Port Vale with another solid result against a high-flying side.
Flynn said he was a little frustrated Cheltenham did not hold on for a win but believes his improving Robins are close to becoming a very good team.
“I am extremely proud – playing second and third in the space of five days and the performances, well, we could have won both of them,” Flynn said. “They have put in a really good shift and I am proud of them.
“I am a little bit disappointed we didn’t see it out, as with the Port Vale game, but I can’t ask any more of what they are giving at the moment. We are almost a very, very good team.
“Doncaster are a good team, let’s not dress it up. So are Port Vale. They are good teams. We have more than matched them and given as good as we’ve got.
“Keep turning out those performances and you will win more than you lose. It was a complete rebuild, we are still early days. People will say it’s a quarter or a third of the season gone, but these players are developing on our watch.”
