Grant McCann was disappointed with Doncaster’s response to going a goal down in their 1-0 defeat against promotion rivals AFC Wimbledon.
Matty Stevens’ 11th goal of the season gave the Dons the lead in the 27th minute.
The visitors were limited to scraps during a quiet second half of the match that saw them fail to record a shot on target.
McCann felt his side’s performance was below par and called on his players to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
“Second half I was just really disappointed, I could not see where a goal was going to come from,” he said.
“I don’t think there have been many times this season where I have said that I am really disappointed, I think today was one of those ones where we were really disappointing.
“There have been periods of games where we have been really good for a half or 70 minutes, but today, for 20 minutes we were OK and then as soon as we conceded we were way off where I know we can be.
“It is really hard to pinpoint, to be honest, it’s not like we are coaching the team to be defensive, we just want the boys to go and take the game by the scruff of the neck.
“Individually and collectively go and take the game to people and be more positive.
“Credit to them, they worked hard, they kept us honest and their front three worked so hard.
“We did not have that calmness to play through them today, we just went too long.”
The result sees the Dons leapfrog their opponents into fourth place, leaving Rovers in fifth.
Johnnie Jackson believes the win can act as a marker for his side.
“It’s a significant result, we climb up the league and leapfrog them,” said Jackson.
“We said what a good team they are before and said that it would be a marker of where we are at considering we are decimated with injuries.
“It was a great win, it was hard fought and really competitive.
“It was tight, we knew it would be, they’re a good team and we had to dig in when they put us under pressure towards the end.
“We saw it through, so it was a great performance and a great result.
“He [Matty Stevens] was great, all of the front three were powerful today.
“He is on a good run of form, and if you want to be successful and do something you need your strikers to be scoring.
“Matty is on fire at the moment with the goals but the other two were equally as good today without getting the plaudits.”
