Grimsby stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with a 1-1 home draw against managerless Tranmere in League Two.

Sam Finley gave Rovers a 10th-miute lead as they looked to end a run of 11 games without a win.

But their wait went on as Danny Rose levelled from a 68th-minute penalty to move the Mariners two points off the play-off places.

Finley put the visitors ahead with a swerving effort from inside the area.

Jayden Luker fired wide for the hosts soon after the opening goal, and Jason Dadi Svanthorsson almost poked past Rovers goalkeeper Luke McGee in the first half, but the visitors led at the break.

Grimsby skipper Rose levelled from the spot after Jordan Turnbull handled in the box as he misjudged the bounce of the ball.

Josh Hawkes fired narrowly wide of the near post from the right side of the box as the visitors looked to restore their lead.

But the two teams were forced to settle for a draw that left Rovers just a point clear of safety.
