Tranmere ended a run of six games without a victory with a 1-0 win over struggling Swindon at Prenton Park.

Harvey Saunders’ first-half strike was enough to see Ian Dawes register his first victory as Rovers manager and inflict a fourth straight defeat on the Robins.

The home side opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Saunders prodded home from close range after Swindon failed to clear the ball on the edge of their box.

The visitors enjoyed the majority of possession after the break with Jonny Williams forcing a good save from Mat Hewelt in the Rovers goal and Tyrese Shade blazing the rebound over.

At the other end, Kane Hemmings and Josh Hawkes could have made things more comfortable for Rovers who both wasted good opportunities to double the lead.

The away side could easily have snatched a point with late chances falling to Williams and Shade but Rovers hung-on to record their first win in seven matches while it is now no win in eight for Town.
