Doncaster missed the opportunity to pull clear in the race for League Two automatic promotion after Swindon scored twice in two second-half minutes to rescue a 2-2 draw.

Ian Holloway’s revitalised side looked well beaten at the break after Doncaster opened up a two-goal lead through Rob Street and Joe Sbarra.

But substitutes Danny Butterworth and Joe Westley struck seconds apart to rescue a point for the visitors, with Rovers now just two points above fourth-placed AFC Wimbledon.

It was a dream start for Doncaster who netted after just 19 seconds when Street raced onto a fine through ball from George Broadbent and drilled in a low angled effort.

Rovers doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute when Sbarra darted into space in the box to meet Luke Molyneux’s low cross and sidefoot into the far corner.

Butterworth smashed in an excellent low finish after 50 minutes to make a bright start to the second period count for Swindon.

Westley then turned home Botan Ameen’s low centre to equaliser.

Billy Sharp saw a late effort ruled out for offside in the closest either side came to a winner.
