Birmingham celebrated Christmas at the summit of League One with a 2-0 victory against Burton in front of a sold-out crowd at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park.
Jay Stansfield’s first-half penalty and an own goal from goalkeeper Max Crocombe proved to be the difference between the sides.
In what was their sixth unbeaten game, Chris Davies’ team enabled the league table to remain the same, with one point between themselves and Wycombe – while the Brewers dropped to the bottom.
Marc Leonard’s set-pieces proved to be a problem for the visitors, the 23-year-old delivering several teasing crosses in the opening 20 minutes.
Six minutes later, Stansfield’s penalty gave the home side the lead after Keshi Anderson had been felled by Ciaran Gilligan, claiming his 14th goal of the campaign.
The Brewers should have been level after the restart when Jack Armer’s cross presented Kgaogelo Chauke
with a golden opportunity but the forward could not hit the target.
After Willum Willumsson’s cross flashed across the box, an own goal from Crocombe gave the Blues a cushion and sealed the three points.
