Josh Windass’ double helps Sheffield Wednesday to victory
Barry Bannan’s early strike and a Josh Windass brace earned Sheffield Wednesday a comfortable 3-0 victory over Morecambe at Hillsborough.
The Owls were ahead within the first minute. George Byers found Bannan on the edge of the box and the skipper calmly passed the ball into the bottom corner.
The home side doubled their lead 22 minutes in when Marvin Johnson crossed to Michael Smith and he found team-mate Windass, with the striker seeming to get the final touch before the ball hit the net.
The second half provided little excitement with no real chances for either team. The Shrimps defended bravely and looked likely to keep the score at 2-0 until moments before the close of play.
Wednesday wrapped up proceedings in the 87th minute when substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru showed a burst of pace in Morecambe’s penalty area and squared across the six-yard box for Windass to head into an empty net.
The victory sees Sheffield Wednesday remain second, while Morecambe stay down in 21st.
