Salford manager Karl Robinson branded his side’s 3-0 victory over Notts County in League Two as a ‘statement win’.
The triumph, courtesy of Cole Stockton’s brace and one from Conor McAleny, followed on from a 2-0 win at home to Harrogate and a narrow loss at Gillingham last weekend, a game Robinson felt his side could have got something from.
He said: “I think it was a real statement win. I’ve had some statement performances but the result has to match the performance to make people think ‘Salford aren’t a bad team’.
“If you look at our performances of late, I think they’ve been tremendous and I certainly think we’ve deserved a lot more from them than we have.
“I’ve been really pleased with what I’ve seen lately but there’s so much more to come.”
Stockton impressed as he netted a brace either side of the break after McAleny had opened the scoring but Robinson was delighted with the performance levels of his entire squad.
He added: “Cole’s taken a while to get going this season and I still demand more from him and I think having Hakeeb Adelakun back on the bench today gave him a nudge.
“You couldn’t pick an outstanding player for us because I thought it was a tremendous all-round performance and one I really loved watching.”
Notts County boss Stuart Maynard felt his side didn’t adapt to the conditions as they fell to a third successive away defeat in the league.
A poor run of form for County, in which they haven’t won in the league since late October, has seen them slip out of the play-off places.
Maynard is now looking to the Christmas period as they seek to turn around their fortunes.
He said: “I think they played the pitch and conditions better than us. We knew this was a game we wouldn’t be able to play the football we all like to see.
“We knew this would be a scrappy game and we would have to battle from minute one and compete but I think they were just better than us all over the pitch in everything they did.
“We’ve got a group that are together and they stick together and that’s what we’ve got to do now and come back fighting.
“We need a response over Christmas, it’s a big period for us with lots of games to play and lots of points to play for so hopefully we can get some more bodies back to support the group.”
