Karl Robinson enjoyed his Salford side making it six wins on the spin as they beat MK Dons 1-0 at Stadium MK.
Hakeeb Adelakun was the match winner as he flicked home the only goal from a deflected cross during the first half.
The victory was Salford’s sixth in succession, all of which have come with clean sheets, and has seen the Ammies move up to second in the Sky Bet League Two table.
Robinson voiced his delight at keeping the run going ahead of next weekend’s FA Cup tie with Manchester City, while the former MK Dons manager was also happy that his team were able to grind the points out.
He said: “When you win, it’s always something you can enjoy. I think out of all the games, we knew this would be going to be the most difficult. This is a good team.
“We knew how important this game was but I thought we showed our taking tactical information on was unbelievable.
“We found it hard to begin both halves, to get to grips with their intensity, but I felt the longer the game went on and we settled into things, I thought we looked a good team.
“What we certainly are is honest, hardworking and put ourselves on the pitch to win and compete for everything.
“Today we’ve shown we can play that way, even on big pitches, but equally, what I’m most disappointed about is I don’t quite think we settled on the ball enough and played some of our football. We showed another side to us, which I’m really happy with.”
MK Dons boss Scott Lindsey felt his side did not take their chances.
They are now on a run of one win in six.
Lindsey said: “Games are won in both boxes.
“We didn’t defend one action well enough and we didn’t take our chances at the other end well enough.
“I thought we set off really well and controlled the first period of the first half, then we go a goal behind, play out of control football, boot it forward for no reason and it looks a bit scruffy from there on in.
“We still create chances in the second half but don’t take them, and probably had created enough chances to win two football matches today but don’t take them.
“We’ve got to have a better mentality to keep playing and stop changing. We were fine in that first 25 minutes, had control, looked the dominant team, possession stats were good, we created, but we just seemed to change the minute the ball went in the net. We’ve got to be braver to keep playing.”
