Louie Barry scores again as Stockport too strong for Exeter

Promotion hopefuls Stockport retained their place in the League One play-off spots with a 2-0 victory over Exeter.

Tristan Crama’s unfortunate own goal midway through the second half gave County the advantage before Louie Barry added a second from the penalty spot late on.

Barry almost scored after just four minutes but fired into the side-netting before Caleb Watts squandered a good chance for Exeter, missing the target from a free header.

After dominating the majority of the first half, County almost broke the deadlock on the hour but Lewis Bate’s effort from the edge of the area clipped the post.

The hosts did eventually score on 67 minutes when Crama inadvertently bundled the ball into his own goal after Kyle Wootton’s initial shot had been saved by goalkeeper Joe Whitworth.

Just minutes after hitting the post from a narrow angle, Barry was felled in the penalty box by Crama after a blistering run down the left.

The hot-shot forward coolly converted for his 14th league goal of the season.
