Mason Bennett’s goal secures surprise Burton win at Peterborough

Mason Bennett’s goal gave Burton just their second win of the season in Sky Bet League One as they picked up a shock 1-0 victory at Peterborough.

The Brewers have lifted themselves off the foot of the table, although they still have a seven-point gap to make up on 20th-placed Leyton Orient.

A simple ball over the top in the 19th minute put Peterborough’s Kwame Poku in behind with Burton goalkeeper Max Crocombe flying out of his area to block the attempted lob with his chest.

The Brewers were more than just holding their own, however, with Tomas Kalinauskas having a long-range effort pushed out by Posh goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic.

The visitors came close again just before the hour mark when a lovely cross by captain Elliot Watt was sent just wide by Ryan Sweeney’s flying header.

But the lead Burton deserved arrived in the 64th minute when Kalinauskas’ excellent pass put Bennett in on goal and he calmly slotted the ball beyond Bilokapic for what proved to be the winner.
