MK Dons fight back for late victory over Cheltenham

Laurence Maguire scored a late winner as MK Dons came from behind to record a 3-2 League Two victory over Cheltenham at Stadium MK.

Luke Young gave Cheltenham a sixth-minute lead which George Miller extended – seven minutes later – to hand the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Alex Gilbey pulled a goal back before Ellis Harrison equalised in the second half, while Maguire’s 86th-minute winner completed MK Dons’ comeback as they won a fifth-straight League Two game.

Cheltenham struck first when Joel Colwill’s free-kick found Young and his strike from range found the net despite goalkeeper Tom McGill’s touch.

Scott Hogan had an equaliser disallowed before Cheltenham scored again in the 13th minute. Young’s free-kick was nodded across goal by Tom Bradbury for Miller to tap in.

MK Dons pulled a goal back midway through the first half as Gilbey rifled in Scott Hogan’s cross.

Cheltenham could have extended their lead when McGill denied Young just after the break.

But MK Dons equalised in the 74th minute when Harrison tapped in Hogan’s lay-off and they completed their comeback – four minutes from time – when Maguire poked the ball home after a scramble at a corner.
