Bolton and Wrexham played out a goalless draw in League One in their first meeting since 1988.
In front of Wanderers’ biggest post Premier League crowd of 25,957, Nathan Baxter and Arthur Okonkwo made crucial saves to protect their respective teams’ unbeaten start to their league campaigns.
Okonkwo denied Aaron Collins after 13 minutes and turned away Dion Charles’ effort two minutes after the restart.
Wrexham, managed by former Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson, have not won at Bolton since 1971.
However, the Welsh side comfortably matched last season’s League One play-off finalists.
Jack Marriott’s 46th minute effort was turned aside by Baxter who also thwarted substitute Steven Fletcher.
Elliot Lee also fired over for the visitors while defender Eoin Toal’s late header was scrambled clear as Bolton pressed for a winner.
Otherwise, defences remained on top as both teams took their points tally to four after their opening two fixtures.
