Salford boss Neil Wood was delighted by his side’s ruthlessness as they beat Doncaster 3-1 in Sky Bet League Two.

The ambitious Ammies reignited their play-off push as Luke Bolton’s double, either side of Stephen Mallan’s strike, secured the points at the Peninsula Stadium.

George Miller’s instant equaliser was in vain as the hosts went three points clear of the chasing pack following a second successive home win.

Wood said afterwards: “At the start of the season we were playing well but not putting our chances away, or not finishing them off.

“I think this is a really hard place to come and play and that’s what we wanted to create. I don’t think many teams look forward to coming here.

“We’ve definitely hit a good patch of form, we’ve definitely done well and taken the wins, so that’s got to continue.

“We’ve got nine important games to go, we want to win as many of those games as possible and we’re confident. Performances have been really good, we’ve just got to maintain that consistency that we’ve been searching for. Now would be a great time to put that into practice.

“Some weeks it goes for you and some weeks it doesn’t, but what we have is we’ve got it in our hands and we’ve got nine big games to go, we know if we win as many of those as we can potentially there could be automatic (promotion) but at least play-offs.

“What we do have is games against teams around us, which we’re looking forward to, which gives us opportunity to take points off them, get a little step in front which is important.

“For me the way we’re playing, the goals we’re scoring, the threat that we have going forward at the moment then we have to be confident going into those games.”

Rovers’ boss Danny Schofield rued his side’s mistakes, which have constantly cost them this season.

After another error-strewn display, he said: “It’s obviously very disappointing. It was tough to concede two goals, which were down to errors and mistakes, but I think all in all we were beaten by the better team.

“It was a positive response to get straight back into the game, it was a great finish from George Miller. We showed great character to get back into it, but we conceded from another error.

“Mistakes happen, but we need to try and eradicate them, especially when we come to a place like this where it’s going to be a challenge. It cost us.

“Mistakes are going to happen, it’s as simple as that, but we need to eradicate them to be competitive.

“The manner in which we conceded the third goal was disappointing and ended the game.

“The injury list is growing a bit, which is frustrating.”
