Portsmouth’s faint play-off hopes were all but ended by a 0-0 bore draw at home to relegation-haunted Morecambe.

Both sides were looking for all three points for totally different reasons, but neither were able to fully take control.

The first half produced very little in terms of shots on goal, although Tom Lowery had two good chances for Pompey.

In the 28th minute, a mistake by the Morecambe defence saw Lowery put through into the box, but his shot went wide.

Four minutes later, Lowery again could only fire off target with the goal at his mercy.

Morecambe created even less, with a 26th-minute effort from Cole Stockton that goalkeeper Matt Lacey pushed behind their only threat.

It was Morecambe with the first effort of the second half as Jensen Weir fired straight into Macey’s arms from 25 yards.

Reeco Hackett almost won it for the hosts in the dying seconds but his header was brilliantly saved by Connor Ripley.
