Reece Smith’s brace helped Maidenhead turn the form table on its head with a 3-1 win over Barnet in the National League.

Barnet had started the season with three wins out of four and Maidenhead had only picked up one point, but the hosts raced into a two-goal lead at York Road and never looked back.

Smith’s double was sandwiched by a first-half Tristan Abrahams effort, which meant a Callum Stead goal ended up being a mere consolation.

The deadlock was broken in the 14th minute when Abrahams found Smith, who rounded Nick Hayes and slotted home before Abrahams turned goalscorer when he finished off a slick move after 40 minutes.

Stead reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time, but Smith completed his brace early into the second period to clinch a first victory of the campaign for Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead.
