Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens wants his side to a show more of a cutting edge in attack after seeing them held to a goalless draw at home by Wigan.
Wigan failed to muster a single shot on the Orient goal but despite dominating the game, the hosts lack of guile and creativity proved their shortcomings.
Visiting goalkeeper Sam Tickle produced a series of saves to thwart the home side who saw their flickering League One play-off hopes take another setback.
“They came for a point and in every single aspect of the game we was far better than them but the disappointment for us is we’ve had 16 shots and only three on target,” Wellens said.
“I thought our performance was good but we’ve got to be better in the final third. The passing and the movement was good but we need individuals to be more explosive in the final third.
“If you look at our performance today compared to Tuesday at Burton it was much better. We were always in control. Our passing was much better. We had 70 per cent possession. On Tuesday we started the game well but then had no legs to press them.
“Today we had freshness and apart from one counter-attack they never got near our goal.”
Orient’s draw left them ninth in League One, six points adrift of the play-off places.
Wellens added: “Our crowd was good and we’re ninth in the league surrounded by Premier League clubs so we’ll try and win our last six games but we just need to enjoy it.”
Wigan, meanwhile, moved six points clear of the drop zone although boss Ryan Lowe has yet to notch a victory since being appointed four matches ago.
“It wasn’t pretty but you look at what Leyton Orient have done this year so take a point was satisfactory when you look at the lads they had on the bench and who they could bring on,” Lowe said.
“They are a good team and I’ve massive respect for what they’ve done.
“We went about our business a little bit differently today, we knew it was going to be a tough place to come and went more solid in defence and we knew it was going to be tough and we rode our luck. But that’s what you have to do.
“On Tuesday, we conceded a scrappy goal right at the end of the game but today we haven’t. It’s a massive point and we’ve kept a clean sheet. We didn’t create as many opportunities as we would have liked.
“I thought our back three lads were fantastic and they put bodies on the line. Sam made some good saves, he’s a good goalkeeper and keeps you in the game. But from back to front, it was a good performance.
“It wasn’t pretty for most of today but I would have taken a point all day long coming here. The players battled hard today and I’m very pleased with them.”
