Salford boss Karl Robinson was delighted with another clean sheet as his Salford side moved into the Sky Bet League Two play-off places by defeating bottom-of-the-league Morecambe 1-0.

The Ammies have conceded just one goal in their last seven games, with a run of five wins in six propelling them into the top seven of the table, Matty Lund’s second-half goal earning them a fourth straight victory.

“We just keep scoring goals and not conceding and I thought today was a completely different type of Salford performance,” said Robinson.

“I think weirdly today we created more opportunities to score than in recent weeks, but only got that one goal.

“The disallowed goal as well, which I honestly don’t know why that hasn’t been given, we’ve seen that back and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

“I think the level of energy and grit and determination shown was absolutely incredible and to keep six clean sheets in our last seven games is absolutely unbelievable from the group.

“I’ve been in this game long enough to know that these runs can stop very quickly, but equally if you keep working hard and keep asking the right question, luck will fall on your side nine times out of 10.

“Today, once or twice, luck did fall on our side, but I’d argue that we had multiple chances to score two or three and really be clear out in front.”

After a crucial win over relegation rivals Carlisle on Boxing Day, Morecambe manager Derek Adams was disappointed his side did not get anything out of a closely-fought clash with Salford.

The Scotsman rued several missed half-chances on the edge of the Salford box which did not go the Shrimps’ way as they succumbed to a fourth defeat in five league games.

Adams said: “I thought it was a strong performance from us and we played in Salford’s half for much of the first half and we probably could have gone ahead.

“Second half they get a quick goal, we lose a runner in the midfield and he gets on the end of it but we kept on going and getting the ball into the final third, but we couldn’t quite get that goal that we deserved.

“We should have scored today, no doubt about that, with the amount of opportunities we had in the 18-yard box, but they didn’t fall for us.

“I don’t think the referee helped himself today, I think his decision making was poor. They should have had a player sent off; Ossama Ashley. He’s been booked and makes a number of poor challenges after that and then there’s a penalty shout towards the end, but he doesn’t give it.

“The time-wasting from Salford in the second half was shocking, but he didn’t deal with it.”
