Scott McTominay scored twice to lead Napoli to a 3-0 win over Empoli which closed the gap to Serie A leaders Inter Milan to three points.
Inter had increased their advantage with a 3-1 win over Cagliari on Saturday to turn up the pressure on Antonio Conte’s men, but they responded with aplomb.
McTominay opened the scoring after 18 minutes before Romelu Lukaku doubled Napoli’s lead 11 minutes into the second period.

Scotland international McTominay rounded off the scoring with his ninth goal for the club since his summer switch from Manchester United.
Atletico Madrid’s own faint title aspirations remain alive after a 4-2 LaLiga victory over Real Valladolid.
Diego Simeone’s men started the day 10 points behind leaders Barcelona and looked set to drop points when Mamadou Sylla put Valladolid in front after 21 minutes.
Two goals in three first-half minutes, a Julian Alvarez penalty and Giuliano Simeone’s 27th-minute effort, got Atletico back on track, but they were pegged back with 56 minutes played by Javi Sanchez.
The hosts finished strongly, though, as Alvarez scored another spot-kick before Alexander Sorloth made the points safe 11 minutes from time.
