Chesterfield were held to a goalless draw by Solihull Moors in a repeat of last season’s Vanarama National League play-off semi-final.

The Spireites, beaten 3-1 last May as their promotion hopes ended, had an early penalty appeal waved away before Armando Dobra shot just wide. At the other end, Chesterfield keeper Ross Fitzsimons saved from Andrew Dallas.

Early in the second half, Dallas cleared Ash Palmer’s header off the line while Solihull substitute Josh Kelly wasted a great chance after an error by Palmer had sent him through on goal.

Solihull defender Alex Gudger denied Ryan Colclough a late winner with a brave block and Joe Quigley headed over as the hosts held out for a point, with Chesterfield’s winless run extended to six games.
