Blackpool manager Steve Bruce felt his side were the better team after they left it late to rescue a 1-1 draw against 10-man Wycombe at Adams Park.

Kyle Joseph’s stoppage-time equaliser salvaged the Tangerines a point after the hosts took the lead in the first half thanks to a Richard Kone penalty.

The turning point of the contest came when Wycombe’s Alex Hartridge was sent off on 55 minutes after he slid into Joseph having already been on a yellow card.

Bruce said: “I couldn’t fault the players’ effort and application as it was there for everyone to see.

“I thought we did enough to get something [from the game] as we stuck at it and it’s nice to get on our way and I think we deserved it.

“We gave a poor goal away even though I thought we were the better team in the first half and, unfortunately for us, we created enough chances but missed them.

“So it was nice to get one right at the death.

“We’ve been here, Wrexham and Birmingham over the Christmas period and played well against them.

“We’ve played very well away this season but at home we haven’t done enough in terms of taking our chances.

“On the balance of play, I thought we were the better team and we deserved it.”

Despite dropping two points, Wycombe remain in the automatic promotion places as they sit in second place on 51 points.

They are the highest goalscoeres in the league with 50 but manager Matt Bloomfield was happy with his side’s defensive display.

He also said he would not ‘heap any blame’ on Hartridge, despite his second red card of the season.

Bloomfield said: “I’m very proud of the boys as they dug in, showed good work-rate, the togetherness and really fought for each other.

“We defended the ball well and limited Blackpool to mostly shooting from outside the box.

“But we didn’t get over the line and that is quite frustrating.”

On the red card, he added: “It was probably a booking [for the second challenge].

“It was a timing error [for the tackle] and I will certainly not heap any blame on Al because he has been a diamond of a boy since he has come in and he has given us everything he has got.”
