Blackpool boss Steve Bruce was disappointed after his side went out of the FA Cup following a feeble first-half performance in their 2-1 defeat to his former club Birmingham.
The visitors struck twice in the opening 24 minutes through Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes and Lukas Jutkiewicz to take control before Jordan Rhodes came off the bench for a consolation goal at Bloomfield Road.
Bruce, who both played for and managed the Blues, said: “We didn’t lay a glove on Birmingham. In the second half we made a few changes and it was a totally different cup tie.
“And maybe we had the better chances in the second half. We’ve certainly made more of a cup tie of it, compared to the first half, when it was just a stroll in the park for them, which was disappointing.
“Well we huffed and puffed and as I said, made a cup tie out of it. (Matthew) Pennington had a big chance at the death at the far post, and if there’s anybody you want on that kind of chance, it’s a centre-back with a header, but it wasn’t to be.
“But again, in the first half, we were nowhere near where we should be.”
Birmingham boss Chris Davies, who made 10 changes for the game, is eager for a home clash in Monday’s third-round draw.
Davies’ team have nine games in the next five weeks and he said: “I’m not too bothered with who we get, I just want a home game.
“A nice easy home game would be ideal, but whatever it is we will attack it when it comes round.
“It was a lot of changes to make, but how else are we going to get players ready?
“I was really pleased because it’s not easy making so many changes. It’s given me food for thought.
“We’ve got so many games coming up, it’ll probably be the most games anyone’s ever had coming up.
“We’re going to need the squad. We’ll need all the players ready because they will be called upon.”
