Steve Bruce believed his side were ‘worthy winners’ after they won 2-1 at Shrewsbury to secure back-to-back victories in Sky Bet League One.
The Tangerines beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 last Tuesday after a seven-match winless run in the league but are now looking to build on two positive performances in the third tier.
Shrewsbury opened the scoring through Mal Benning’s free-kick from inside his own half found the back of the net after the ball bounced up and over onrushing goalkeeper Harry Tyrer.
Blackpool equalised in the 52nd minute when Aaron Pierre poked the ball into his own goal and the turnaround was complete five minutes later when Josh Onomah converted a beautiful strike from the edge of the box.
“We showed a bit of resilience on an awful night, which is not conducive for football,” Bruce said. “That’s what this division is; it sets you a different challenge, there is a new manager [Gareth Ainsworth] here with a bit of momentum.
“They keep putting it in behind you and we found it difficult after the goal we gave away but in the second half we played the conditions better and looked quite comfortable.
“Harry Tyrer has to learn from the first goal; nobody wants to see that, and it was a difficult night. He’s only young and learning his trade.
“After the goal, we had to weather a 10 to 15-minute spell where we were on the back foot but we showed a bit of resilience.
“Second half we went a little bit more direct and played off the front better and played to the conditions.
“In the end, we were worthy winners, in my opinion.”
Shrewsbury boss Ainsworth said: “I asked for everything they’ve got and I can accept loads of mistakes as long as they give everything – and they did.
“Alex Gilliead came off with a big gash on his head and there are a couple of boys dead on their feet because they gave everything again.
“I will need to make some changes on Saturday because these boys have dug deep and run really hard and, apart from some crazy moments, we were right in the game.
“We will be back on it Saturday, without a doubt. I will pick the boys up tomorrow and we will get going again.
“There are going to be some tough moments as a manager, when you go into a new club; it’s usually because a team is doing badly, and it’s about what you can change.
“You can change plenty in a week but not enough and I need to change so much.
“I’m not talking personal, that may happen, that may not depending on the reaction I get – but mentality, shape and solidity.”
