Stockport needed extra time to overcome National League side Forest Green as Kyle Wootton’s goal secured a 2-1 victory and a place in the second round of the FA Cup.
Fraser Horsfall’s impressive volley had given the League One side the lead but Christian Doidge’s equaliser for the visitors meant an extra 30 minutes at Edgeley Park.
But Wootton’s 97th-minute strike ensured Stockport avoided a cup upset.
Forest Green started well and almost took the lead seven minutes in when Tom Knowles’ curling shot was tipped over the crossbar.
Stockport fashioned their first chance in the 34th minute as Tayo Adaramola’s effort from 20 yards was parried clear by Jamie Searle before Odin Bailey and Tyler Onyango both went close before half-time.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when captain Horsfall brilliantly volleyed into the top corner from Lewis Bate’s cross.
Rovers were gifted an equaliser with eight minutes left when Bailey was caught in possession on the edge of the box by Doidge and the substitute smashed home to force extra time.
County cliched the win seven minutes into extra time after Isaac Olaofe’s shot ricocheted right into the path of Wootton who tapped in from a couple of yards out.
