York recorded their first National League victory of the season with a convincing 3-0 success over nine-man Southend.

The Minstermen were the only team to have not won after eight league games but they went ahead in the 26th minute thanks to a brilliant right-footed effort from 30 yards by left-back Thierry Latty-Fairweather.

Southend, who have won four matches and are at the foot of the table due to a 10-point deduction, were reduced to 10 men in the 74th minute when Harry Taylor was shown a red card for pulling back York striker Dipo Akinyemi on the edge of the area.

The hosts made the most of the numerical advantage with Maziar Kouhyar and Zanda Siziba putting the game out of sight with goals in the 74th and 76th minute.

Full-back Gus Scott-Morriss was then shown a straight red card with two minutes remaining to cap a miserable day for Southend.
