Derek Adams says his Morecambe side will not give up their fight for Football League survival after they secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season to close the gap on third-bottom Tranmere.

Goals from substitute Ged Garner and the in-form Lee Angol gave the Shrimps a vital three points against Cheltenham.

Adams said: “The performance was excellent. We were really strong and we scored two good goals at one end and were really resilient at the other.

“We have cut the gap on those above us and that’s all we can ask for. There were a lot of top performances all round. The players understand the situation we are in and they are fighting all the way and we are giving it our all.

“What we did tonight was take full advantage of mistakes they made and that has not always been the case this season. At the moment, though, we are looking a threat and we will keep going.”

Cheltenham manager Michael Flynn was clearly unhappy with his side’s display.

He said: “That’s three or four games now where individual errors have cost us and we haven’t looked like scoring and I’ve told them exactly what I think.

“The second half was as bad as I’ve seen them. It wasn’t good enough and I’m not accepting it. To concede two goals like that was embarrassing.

“We lost too many battles, didn’t put enough balls in the box and had poor set plays. Nobody had any courage to get on the ball and we didn’t string two passes together and it was very, very disappointing.”
