We’ll take it – Darren Ferguson hails importance of Peterborough win
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson admitted “we will take it” after his side got back to winning with a frantic 4-3 victory over Crawley.
Despite being , Posh battled hard and took three important points that Ferguson felt were very much needed.
The Scot felt his team made things harder than they needed to be but said: “Look, we will take it. It was all about making sure we got back to winning ways and if you’d told me this morning we’d win 4-3, I’d have absolutely taken it.
“We can’t seem to quite get an inch in terms of putting together a complete performance but it was just really important we got a win today.”
Ricky-Jade Jones and Cian Hayes put Posh 2-0 up and though Ayo Adeyemo pulled one back, Hector Kyprianou made it 3-1 just after half-time.
Quickfire goals from Will Swan and Tola Showunmi levelled the match but Hayes’ second proved decisive.
“We get 2-0 in front and Ricky misses a chance and then we make a criminal mistake and they’re back into it before half-time,” said Ferguson.
“Hector then gets us back two goals ahead and at that point we are in complete control but we then find a way to let them back in.
“I do give credit to the team though for digging it out and I felt that the subs, in particular Harley Mills who I thought was excellent when he came on, helped us see it out.
“Some teams being pegged back to 3-3 would have felt they were in trouble but I’m pleased we got it over the line.”
Crawley boss Rob Elliot felt his side deserved more from the game and believed that they lost it due to their inability to control key moments.
Elliot said: “It is fine margins really. We did really well for large parts of the game but it was just a number of moments that really let us down.
“I felt we dominated the game overall. I thought we were excellent although maybe we could have been a bit clearer in the final third – but to score three goals away from home and not come away with a result is really disappointing and something we have to work on for sure.
“It’s hugely frustrating but we now just need to make sure we reset. Get ourselves together and make sure we are better next week and then the week after.
“We say often to the boys that we can’t get too high when we win, so we mustn’t be too down when we lose and we need to remind ourselves we are on a journey together. I’m really proud of this group of players and we will continue to keep working.”
