Where next for Marcus Rashford if he leaves Manchester United?

Marcus Rashford appears closer to the Manchester United exit door after saying he is “ready for a new challenge”.

The England forward made the comments in an interview with journalist Henry Winter after being left out of the squad for the Manchester Derby on Sunday.

Here, the PA news agency looks at where Rashford could go next.

Paris St Germain

Rashford has previously been linked with the French giants, who have seen Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi all leave over the last couple of years. But PSG have moved away from high-profile, big-money international signings, while 19-year-old Desire Doue has emerged as a star on the left.

Spain

Real Madrid or Barcelona would undoubtedly be attractive prospects for Rashford but the finances involved would be a major issue, while Rashford’s slide from prominence probably makes such a move unlikely anyway, particularly to star-studded Real. Another Spanish side, such as Atletico Madrid, could potentially be another option if the sums could add up.

Germany

English players have enjoyed recent success in Germany, with Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho all making a big impact. Would Bayern Munich be interested in linking Rashford with his England team-mate Kane? Borussia Dortmund is potentially another option, although it would probably need to be a loan deal because of the money involved.

Saudi Arabia

Middle Eastern clubs have the financial means to pay the likely transfer fee and Rashford’s wages, and he would be another marquee signing. But, at 27, Rashford should be in the prime of his career, and if he is eager to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England side, it would be a risky move.

Premier League

Could Rashford move to another English club? Profit and sustainability rules would make wages in particular a big problem, while United would surely not want to sell him to a rival.
